Aspergillus fumigatus

A seasonal mold and one of the three most common indoor airborne fungi. Aspergillus fumigatus is found both outdoors (e.g., soil, plants) and indoors (e.g., household appliances, drinking water).

Where is Mold (A. fumigatus) found?

A. fumigatus is found all over the world and in every region of the United States. It can grow and survive at a wide range of temperatures (25°C to 55°C).

Aspergillus fumigatus is predominantly found outdoors. Try to avoid areas with high allergen/spore counts and use a mask when outside if possible. This mold can also be found indoors and the below mold reduction measures should be taken to prevent/reduce symptoms.   • Avoid areas with high spore counts

  • Conduct indoor fungi presence tests regularly

  • Limit the use of humidifiers or cool mist

  • Frequently clean carpets and air purifiers

  • Conduct regular maintenance of ventilation systems

  • Use Benadryl, Claritin, or Zyrtec as needed

  • Treat with allergen immunotherapy
